Get To Know Your Lawyer in the Texas Panhandle

You have plenty of choices among lawyers in the Texas Panhandle. Some practice personal injury.
Some are involved in agricultural law. Others do estate planning and probates. Still others are involved in criminal law cases. When you are looking for the right fit for your particular situation, you want experience in the area of law that most concerns you or a loved one.

Meet Attorney William Cornett. Bill was born in Knox County Texas, a farming community where he learned the farming industry from the ground up. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law School. This ought to bring you great comfort…he has been practicing law in the Lone Star State out of his office in Amarillo since 1973. If that isn’t reliability I don’t know what is!

The bottom line is always the same. Will he get the job done for you and your case? Well, if he has been doing it for hundreds of others successfully for nearly four and a half decades you should feel very confident. If you have any of the legal matters listed above, why not contact attorney Bill Cornett for a free consultation at his office located at 612 South Van Buren Street, Amarillo by calling (806) 374-9498.

Understanding Child Support.

Sometimes, especially this time of year, it becomes extremely challenging to keep up with child support payments.  You know that you have a legal obligation to help finance the lives that you have helped create, but now you have moved on and have an extended family whom you wish to care for “until death do you part”.

Please understand that unpaid child support is considered contempt of court by most judges.  They will almost certainly rule that unpaid support is due and payable immediately.  Your best decision is to bring this issue to the judge’s attention BEFORE unpaid child support builds up over months or even years.  Penalties will be harsh if you do not show good faith to pay past due obligations.

If you are caught in a child support conundrum in the Texas Panhandle, call Amarillo family attorney William Cornett.  Get an instant handle on the situation before a judge makes a decision that you will regret.  For strong, experienced representation in your child support case, call Bill at the Cornett Law Firm today at (806) 374-9498.

Fighting a Drug Charge.

Let’s face it, the laws around the nation are changing.  As they change, America’s use of drugs evolves as well.  We know that prescription drug use, for example, has become rampant.  In other areas, what once was the illegal use of marijuana now is acceptable in certain amounts under the law.  Being caught with certain drugs such as cocaine or heroin will probably never be legal.

One thing is certain - being convicted of a drug charge could ruin your life!  If a member of the police force asks you if they may search your car or home without a warrant steadfastly refuse.  Illegal search and seizure violates your constitutional rights.  You need to immediately contact an attorney to defend those rights.

If you have been accused of a drug crime in the Texas Panhandle, the right man to call NOW is Amarillo attorney William Cornett.  Get an instant handle on the situation before your life is altered forever.  For strong representation in your personal drug possession or distribution case call Bill at the Cornett Law Firm today at (806) 374-9498.

Fighting for the Little Guy

Let’s face it, the vast majority of us are “little guys”.  There is no shame in that, but when you have a personal injury claim you are fighting the “big boys”.  Insurance companies have deep pockets and, in many cases, a cadre of attorneys.  On the surface it may seem insurmountable.  The odds could be in your favor if you find someone who fights for you as he would his own family.

This is a special individual who likes playing “David” to the other side’s “Goliath”.  Most individual personal injury law practitioners might take the easy route and just settle out of court.  There are some out there who enjoy being the underdog.  Those special attorneys are the ones you want to hire to defend you against your particular “Goliath”.

In the Amarillo, TX area and around the panhandle that “David” is actually named Bill.  Amarillo personal injury attorney, William (Bill) Cornett, may be the answer for you.  If you have a case that requires a bulldog to represent you, call Bill at the Cornett Law Firm. (806) 374-9498 or (800) 658-6618.

Do You Need Estate Planning?

The simple answer is that nearly everyone owns an estate whether they feel that they do or not.  It is the simple act of making a written plan of where you want your worldly assets to go when you leave this life.  While it does not have to be elaborate and certainly not expensive it needs to be done right.  Of course, it may always be altered later.

Here are just a few tips to remember –

1.  Pass on your values as well as your valuables.
2.  Make sure that you receive the proper care if you become incapacitated.
3.  Assign someone to care for your minor children.
4.  Leave behind provisions for family members that cannot provide for themselves.
5.  Include a solid life insurance policy.

These and other considerations should be made with the help of a veteran estate planning attorney.  That man is attorney Bill Cornett.  Residents of the Amarillo, TX area and parts of New Mexico and Oklahoma around the panhandle should sit down and tap into his forty years of estate planning experience.  Don’t put this off any longer.  Call Bill at the Cornett Law Firm today at (806) 374-9498.

The First Step in a Personal Injury Claim.

When you feel that you have a legitimate personal injury case, it is important to act quickly.  The first thing that many people feel is, “Oh well, I will just let it go and I will get better over time”.  While this is positive thinking it does not address the issue of fair compensation.  Your life may be changed negatively after this incident.

Personal injury is fairly easy to define.  It boils down to injuries that are caused by other people or companies.  Sometimes it may be both - as in a case, when someone is driving a vehicle owned by the company for which they work.  It is important to seek an attorney who (1) offers a free consultation, (2) is certified in Personal Injury Trial Law, and (3) works on a contingency fee.  Therefore, if you win the case the attorney gets paid from the settlement and there is not an upfront cost to the client.

Just such a lawyer is located in Amarillo and is certified in Personal Injury Trial Law.  He is attorney Bill Cornett.  If you live in the Amarillo, TX area or have been injured within the panhandle or surrounding area, seek the counsel of forty year veteran lawyer, Bill Cornett.  Bill is an experienced Personal Injury Trial attorney in Amarillo.  Don’t procrastinate!  The initial consultation is free.  Call Bill today at (806) 374-9498.

Estate Planning Made Easy

So many people fret over the simple procedure of estate planning.  They pay too much or worse, put it off until it is too late.  The vast majority of Americans do not need some complicated, intricate estate plan.  Their affairs can be put in order with a session or two with the right attorney.  What good is planning your estate if you have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to do it?

Here are some estate planning tips -

1.  Seriously consider how you would want your estate divided upon your passing and have a qualified attorney prepare your will.
2.  Understand probate and determine if it is right for you.
3.  Make sure that your endoflife documents are written exactly the way you want them.

The whole process does not have to be a complicated and expensive mess!  If you live in the Amarillo, TX area and are ready to sit down with a qualified 40-year veteran of estate law; then call Attorney Bill Cornett.  Bill is an experienced estate planning attorney in Amarillo.  Don’t put it off another day.  Call Bill today at (806) 3749498.

Car Accident Injuries from being Rear-Ended.

The only good news here is IF you have the misfortune of being in an auto accident it is better to have been rear-ended.  You are probably not at fault in this sort of collision.  If you have been subjected to this type of accident it does not mean you are not hurt.  Injuries may show up after you leave the crash scene, so don’t just “shake it off”.

The very first thing to do is call the police.  Take pictures with your cell phone.  Obviously, if you notice any severe injuries to anyone in your car call an ambulance immediately.  When the police arrive carefully explain the positions of the vehicles at point of impact.  Remember, the individual who rear-ended you may have a completely different story.

People tend not to take these accidents seriously.  Attorney Bill Cornett does!  For decades he has been representing car accident victims in Amarillo, Texas.  If you feel that you have been injured in a rear-end collision by a driver call attorney Bill Cornett as soon as possible. He is an experienced vehicle accident attorney in Amarillo.  Call today at (806) 374-9498.

Important Reminders for Pedestrians.

Please don’t make a fatal mistake in thinking that because you are on foot and they are on wheels that you always have the right of way.  With the wide open spaces of the Amarillo area there are plenty of danger zones between drivers of motor vehicles and those who are going from point A to point B on foot, even if it is for a short distance.

Let’s add this to the mix - drivers and walkers are legally or illegally using their cell phones constantly.  This creates distracted activity on behalf of both parties.  Even a sidewalk is not a safe haven.  It must be properly used and pedestrians need to stay within the crosswalk when moving from one side of the street to the other.

It seems simple on the surface, but there will still be accidents between people on foot and those behind the wheel.  If you live in the area and feel that you have been injured negligently by a driver while you were walking, make the right call.  Attorney Bill Cornett is an experienced pedestrian defense personal injury attorney in Amarillo.  Call today at (806) 374-9498.

Probate in the State of Texas.

After the death of a loved one emotions are running extremely high.  One of the practical decisions that must be made in the face of this grief and confusion is the proper distribution of your late loved one’s estate.  Unfortunately, this happens all too often and prohibits clear thinking individuals from making unemotional financial decisions.

A dispassionate third party is necessary to sort out the details as to whether or not a probate is necessary.  As you go through the probate process in Texas, there may be legal terms that are unfamiliar to you.  Among them may be…

1.  Decedent - the person who has died and whose will is being probated
2.  Will - the legal document of the decedent
3.  Estate - this is all of the decedent’s assets
4.  Beneficiaries - any and all loved ones named in the will
5.  Executor or Executrix - the person who inventories and catalogues the decedent’s assets and sees that the estate is administered according to law relaying on the advice of an attorney
6.  Executor – refers to a male executor
7.  Executrix – refers to a female executor

In Amarillo, Texas call probate attorney Bill Cornett.  Bill has spent the last 40 years of his life making sure that when families are in a time of grief they have someone they can count on to distribute their loved one’s estate.  If you need an experienced Amarillo probate lawyer please call Attorney Bill Cornett today at (806) 374-9498.

The Little Guy vs. The Big Corporation.

Personal injury is often about David vs. Goliath.  An individual or family has been injured and the accused perpetrator may be a business or someone driving a company truck.  It happens every day in America.  Maybe a driver of a vehicle owned by a large corporation causes you or a loved one bodily injury.

There are many law firms across the country that only want the “huge” cases.  You can’t blame them really.  They hire dozens of “young guns” and go after hundreds of millions of dollars in restitution.  There are some great, aggressive trial lawyers; however, who would be better to defend the “little guy”.

Bill Cornett is an Amarillo Attorney who has taken pride in spending the last four decades of his life making sure that the “little guy” gets a fair shake.  If you feel that you have a case against a business and don’t know where to turn, please call Attorney Bill Cornett today at (806) 374-9498.

Time to Hit the Road.

This is a glorious holiday weekend.  It is a time to reflect on how blessed we are to live in the greatest country in the world.  It is also the middle of a busy vacation season.  Nearly half of the US will take a summer vacation.  Between Memorial Day and Labor Day Americans will travel nearly 700,000 miles on vacation.  That represents a lot more traffic on roadways in the panhandle and beyond.

Did you know that the average distance those travelers go is nearly 300 miles one way?  And 91% of all summer traveling is done in a personal car, truck, or SUV.  Are you and your family headed out to the Rocky Mountains, or California, or somewhere out east to visit friends and family?  Whatever the case please travel safely.

If you are involved in a vehicle accident, make sure that everyone is alive and hopefully unharmed and if necessary call 911.  Take as many pictures of the accident scene as you possibly can.  When the dust settles and you are safely at home call Attorney Bill Cornett if the situation demands it.  Attorney Cornett has represented people in the Panhandle for decades.  He is an Amarillo auto accident attorney certified in Personal Injury who will make sure that you are vigorously represented in any accident in which you were not at fault.  Call him today at (806) 374-9498 for a free consultation.

Writing your Will.

Some people say you can write your own will.  It is just an expression of your wishes right?  Not so fast!  If a mistake is made, then your will may be rendered unenforceable after your death.  Now there is nothing that your survivors can do about it.  They will be forced to battle it out in the courts and who knows what a mess that will be.

You should always seek the professional help of an attorney who has drawn up wills, preferably for decades.  Sit down with him or her and carefully consider what is best for your friends and relatives.  For nine out of ten people in the Texas Panhandle a simple, properly executed will is all you need.  Isn’t that comforting?

At the Cornett Law Firm, Attorney Bill Cornett will draw up a will in a professional and legal manner.  Go ahead, call him in his Amarillo office and ask him to sit down with you at your convenience to draw up your last will and testament.  If you have been putting off this important task call today at (806) 374-9498 for more information.

Probate is Not Expensive.

Probate has been given a bad rap.  It does not have to be an arduous and expensive process.  In many cases, probate is not even necessary!  Did you know that filing for probate is usually a matter of filing an application, having a hearing for 15 minutes before a county judge, making an inventory sheet, and simply filing a motion to close?

When you hear about the process of most probate filings it doesn’t seem like a green-eyed monster anymore.  The judge will sign an order closing the estate which should take no more than 2-3 months.  Are you concerned about the tax implications?  Know this, there are no federal estate taxes on estates valued at less than 5 million dollars.  Most estates are not like Paisley Park.

Stop and take a breath and call a lawyer who has had decades of experience filing for probate in the state of Texas.  Pick up the phone and call Attorney Bill Cornett serving Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle at (806) 374-9498.  Bill is your choice as an experienced probate lawyer in the Texas Panhandle.  Don’t waste another minute.  Call him today.
